Academic Editing

I offer academic editing grounded in the view that clarity, structure, and argument are central to effective scholarly writing. My work is informed by formal training and research experience in archaeology and palaeontology, and by an understanding of academic practice and evaluation.

Approach to editing

I work at both organisational and sentence level to improve coherence, logic, and the effective presentation of research. Editorial attention is given to how ideas are developed, evidence is presented, and arguments are sustained across a text, alongside language and style where needed.

I work with both researchers and postgraduate students, with editorial input designed to strengthen texts while preserving authorship and academic integrity. This work often involves editing writing by authors working in a second language, and extends beyond heritage science to other disciplines where disciplinary conventions and argument-driven writing are central.

Where this Approach is Applied

I apply this approach to texts where clarity of argument and organisation are critical, particularly at points of assessment, submission, or publication.

Rates

My academic editing rates typically range between R0.25 and R0.35 per word, depending on the level of editing required, the condition of the text, and turnaround time.
