Will & Patrick’s Endless Honeymoon
Ugh, I really hate when a good book is followed up by a really bad one, like have some respect for your readers.
So you might remember me saying that Will & Patrick Wake Up Married is a favourite. Well, I recently read the sequel ishort story to this series and honestly, it’s a bit of a waste of time.
The story’s problem is that it has nothing new to say. There is nowhere further to take Will & Patrick’s relationship. And the authors choose not to introduce any new conflicts between them, which presents us with two problems:
- The story’s conflict needed to come from outside – put a pin in this we will come back to it.
- The lack of conflict in the story also took the emotional connection out of the sex scenes. They were just smut at this point, tasteful smut, but still. Although that sex toy – I will never stop being amazed at what people think up.
The story lacked a plot – in the sense that nothing really happened. But more than that, the advertised conflict never amounted to much. The blurb sells the idea of the long awaited honeymoon being spoiled by the appearance of Will’s dysfunctional family, but the first family member doesn’t turn-up until the midpoint of the story. And even then Will & Patrick have no trouble avoiding them, it just becomes this non-thing. In fact the interesting drama all happens off page – like Jenny giving her run-away ex another chance.
Basically this story was a cash-grab or a sugar-bomb and its only redeeming feature was being too short to actually become annoying.
