Sivathere Sculpture at West Coast Fossil Park

Langebaanweg – Animal Archive

I did my doctorate on Langebaanweg. Leaving behind the work we were doing there behind remains my only regret about walking away from research.

Writing these articles seems to have tapped into a lot of unresolved feelings. For a long time I did not think I had it in me to finish the project. But I put my big-girl panties on, and here finally is the last part of the series.

Artistic Reconstruction of the newly described tortoise, Chersina langebaanwegi, showing two males fighting (note the anterior projections on the shell used to flip the opponent onto his back). Created by L. Bonardo. From Delfino et al. 2025.

The Langebaanweg articles plot the history of the site, its context and importance, and the fossils that make it so exceptional.

I hope it brings readers much enjoyment, and sparks new interest in the site.
